Nice to see a fellow coder who paints! Talking with my software developing colleagues about creativity outside the creativity in programming, I realised how many share creative hobbies, from photography to playing music. Took me a while to make the time to start learning how to draw and paint, but haven’t stopped since. Loving it!

    Hi Paula,
Love that you use Paul Klee’s ‘taking a line for a walk’ as your blog title. Thanks for sharing your work.

      Hi, Jack:
Thanks for telling me this expression is actually coming from Paul Klee πŸ™‚
I sort of remember this sentence long ago from a drawing book explaining how to see thing in outline, just follow the flow, let it take you…in practice, I was imagining walk a dog with a leash, sort of controlling and also not controlling, it works well for me, now I am always looking for a continuing line…
      Thanks for stopping by.

    Hi Paula,

Thanks for stopping by Bright Spirit Studio.

I’ve enjoyed exploring your artwork. You paint and draw with beautiful economy – you’re able to capture the essence of your subject with a few simple strokes of the brush. Do you think your calligraphy work has anything to do with it?

    Blessings,

    Anne

      Hi, Anne:
I have visited your website and love the water color on the about page. It’s beautiful!
Besides compulsory practicing calligraphy in early Chinese school education, I do not have any further discipline on it, maybe I was ingrained by the practice, I am not sure, although I thought my playing with Zen Brush App just mimic calligraphy in a lighthearted way was imitating drawing. Not only walk the line, but dance.
As for the economy sense, I think I was influenced by the love of literature, it’s a shrine that I could be only looking up to. I like the power of words which have the amazing energy, the more concise the better. But maybe I have overly done it, since our body are 70% of liquid the same as the planet earth, living should not be so calculating, what do you think ?

Oh, the water in our bodies flows, the ink and paint and words all flow, it’s all one and the same when we’re in tune with it! As you so clearly are. Keep it up! πŸ™‚

      Hi,Anne:
Just in case you have not read this on my “Update”, let’s copy and paste here as it will be gone soon…

If you like my calligraphy, please take note that they are not properly done, the real Chinese calligraphy are much much better which I do not master.
I found Zen brush app and play with it to my own surprise, WOW! They look so real, but, I soon asked forgiveness from my junior high school teacher who is practicing the real calligraphy art and hold exhibition, to let him know, I did not write but dare to draw …

      Hi,Annie:
I worked out you are called Annie.
Thanks for nominated me, but I do not quite understand what does it mean.
I am actually quite rigid and single minded, and only can do a few things. Although I am quite greedy, I tried to do too many things and end up with nothing finished, that’s why I ending up only with the sketches πŸ™‚ but I comforted myself, Da Vinci also scattering around with bit of pieces of leftovers. So I must be alright πŸ™‚ to catch whatever grapes me at the moment, one moment at a time…
Do you still think I am versatile, I am confused, but also happy πŸ™‚
I am also admired you that you are a IT graduate, I love technology but struggling with it. I did not pass my C# last year, I am going back to repair it today.

Hi! yes I am called Annie or you can even call me littlesnowflake – whatever is easier to type πŸ˜›
Well, to be honest I really like your art work – I have imagined drawing them myself but I dont think I would be able to do them this good.
Haha even I am a procrastinator – I leave things and then hurry up to do them. And then sometimes I don’t do them and regret it later πŸ˜›
I like Da Vinci too, he was revolutionary πŸ˜€
Yes you are Versatile, in fact you can accept this award (its your choice if you don’t want to – but ill be happy if you do ) and follow the rules which are to write 7 facts about you and nominate 15 other bloggers πŸ™‚
You can see this link here: https://versatilebloggeraward.wordpress.com/about/
or visit the link I gave you earlier and follow the same procedure as mine.
Thank you! I love technology although I try to learn – I m not that good with it yet πŸ˜€

      Hi, Annie:
I still can not convince myself versatile, I am in fact very very rigid and no good at following rules, I believe you will find other bloggers who are more flexible to deserve this award.
      Thank you all the same.

      Hi, Mary:
Yes, I love the human faces, so many varieties to sketch on.
When doing portrait, I got an illusion of getting closer to the soul of another human being. At that moment, I feel quite complacent πŸ™‚ but also mixed with a sense of guilt like stalking on someone 😦
When I do not catch the likeness, I excuse myself for going in too deep πŸ™‚
